Not true.. I am the Art Director for a Art department that makes grocery store ads.
Soda is not a common loss leader since it's DSD Pepsi/Coke keep close price controls.
I usually see produce and meat used as loss leaders..
All food margins are bad for grocery stores...they end up making the most money off of their non-food items...which is why you often see a growing number of non-food aisles.
Another point... I expect that TJ MAXX just bought up a bunch of the Refurbished iPads and is taking a $50 loss on each to get people in the stores.

Finally TJMaxx finally got the attention they wanted without spending thousands of dollars in advertising.
Well they did pay money for it. They are probably losing between $70-$100 on each iPad.

I seriously doubt the figure of "80 iPads total" aquired by TJ Maxx that is speculated in the article, but who knows.
I think he meant 8,000. I did the math myself. All you do is count the number of stores east of colorado or so. I estimate 50%-60% of stores got 10 iPads each...throw in some Marshalls stores...and you get between 5,000 - 10,000 iPads.
(notice how some Marshalls stores are holding off on their iPads until Black Friday...maybe they are apple users who actually figure out they have a prized possession...i can see most managers just saying..what are these ipads..lets just give them away).

Apple shouldn't be able to do anything.
Apple cannot do anything directly against TJ Maxx as long as they make no false claims such as being an approved Apple seller, or stating false claims about the product and warranty. At most, put them on a banned list and make not selling to TJ Maxx part of their "Approved Reseller" conditions.
The people who sold to TJ Maxx could be in trouble, however.
Now, if Apple's warranty includes a line about it must be bought from an approved seller, etc, they might be able null the warranty on anyone who's iPad is found to be from TJ Maxx, but that depends in part on the state, and if the warranty has such a line.

Sounds like everything Apple just went through with Antenna-Gate and the White iPhone 4. It happens to everyone.

This would be the only reason I would buy an iPad. Being almost 49 I don't even want to know how much money I blew playing all the great old school arcade games. If I had the money I'd blow it on getting this, alas with one kid in college and another getting there in four years I won't be spending any money on Apple's iToys anytime soon.

just to clear something up. This right now appears to be a text-based phone. I don't think Wu is talking about iChat AV functionality. Some other sites (of much, much less accuracy) have been claiming that the iPhone would be able to do videoconferencing and whatnot, but currently there isn't any good evidence to support this, and in my opinion it doesn't look like current 3G GSM cellular networks simply don't have the duplex bandwidth to deliver that kind of content. (and 4G is still a ways off)

The issue isn't so much subscriptions. It is that Apple made a rule about anything that is sold inside an app that if you wanted to sell it on your own site you have to also have a way for folks to buy it from inside the app through the itunes store and that for those sales Apple gets their 30% (they get nothing if it is paid for via your site or another service). But you also can't put a link or any mention that users can go somewhere else to pay inside the app.
That is what has folks up in arms

I cannot shuffle tunes in a playlist I have tried and tried , I have created playlists but the same song keeps playing, I know it works because it did -Once-and I can't seem to get it to work I await a solution please .

The simple fact that the Financial Times is a UK company and therefore their privacy policy actually means something kind of takes the wind out of your sails somewhat.
Just read their privacy policy and it is clear that they only send you junk email if you explicitly allow it. Plus as an ex-FT subscriber I can state I haven't received any junk mail of any kind.
